Diversity and Inclusion

Rapidly growing awareness of racial injustice have made us all more acutely aware of the tremendous impacts and social costs of systemic, institutionalized racism in our country.

The PHRA Board of Directors strongly condemns racism and all acts of discriminatory behavior. It is not enough to not be racist.  We must actively work to be anti-racist; we have an opportunity and an obligation to be an inclusive organization that is more representative of the neighborhood in which we live and work.  PHRA must work proactively to help  eliminate discrimination in our community in all forms, not just race, but also with respect to age, ethnicity, religion, gender, orientation, and ability.

The causes of discrimination are deeply rooted, and eliminating them is a long-term challenge. It is time for renewed commitment and persistent effort by each of us to do what we can to improve the situation.  As an important step, we seek diversity in our membership and our leadership.  Our outreach activities and member recruiting efforts will reflect this goal. Our charge is to identify causes and acts of systemic racism and other discrimination in our circle of influence, and to work within the community to address the causes so that all who live, work, and visit in Pacific Heights may feel welcome and respected.

We welcome your suggestions as to how PHRA as an organization can make meaningful contributions to diversity, inclusion, equity, and justice in our neighborhood, and we welcome volunteers who can participate on this issue.
